High school math, science and the SAT, with the same tutor every session.
I’m Michael Rainwater. I’ve tutored high school students since 2020, first in Alpharetta and since 2024 from Athens, where I’m a student at UGA. I teach Algebra through Precalculus and Statistics, chemistry, biology and physical science through AP, and the SAT. Every session is with me, and nearly all of them are on Zoom.
Most families come to me with a grade.
I start with what’s behind it.
A C in chemistry can mean a missing algebra skill, a habit with lab reports, or a test that runs out of time. Those need different work. So I find out which one it is first, with a diagnostic built from your student’s actual course, and I write the plan around what it shows.
If a counselor or teacher gave you this link, you don’t need to know anything about me first. Write or call, and I reply within a day, myself. We talk for about thirty minutes, free, and I’ll tell you honestly whether I’m a good fit. I keep a small roster and I don’t hand students off, so the person you talk to is the person who teaches.
What I work on with high school students.
Math
Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus and Statistics. I start at the level where your student’s footing holds, which isn’t always the level of the class they’re in.
High school math tutoring →Science
Chemistry, biology and physical science, on-level, honors and AP. I work from your student’s own course and syllabus, not a generic review.
High school science tutoring →AP courses
AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Statistics and AP Precalculus. Help with the course through the year, and exam prep built around the free-response rubrics.
AP exam prep, subject by subject →The SAT
A diagnostic first, then a plan written backwards from the target score. The same person every session.
SAT prep →Grades and study systems
For a capable student whose grades don’t match what they can do. Planning, organization and follow-through, built around where the breakdown actually is.
Academic coaching →How it starts.
The placement test is free and covers math only. The intake diagnostic is $199, covers any course, and comes with a written report and a meeting with me. The SAT has its own $199 start, the diagnostic session.
The free math placement test
About 20 questions, sixth grade through Precalculus, taken at home. Results are on screen when it ends and no account is needed. It’s the no-cost first look. How the placement test works.
Take the placement test →The intake diagnostic, $199
For a course. It shows me what your student actually needs before you commit to anything. A short assessment taken at home, 45 to 60 minutes, built from the actual course and syllabus. Then a written report with the plan I’d recommend, and a 60-minute meeting to go through it, work one concept together, and decide what comes next. On Zoom or in person in Athens, paid when you book.
Ask about the intake diagnostic →The SAT diagnostic session, $199
For the SAT. A practice section taken online, then up to two hours going through the results with you live, and a written report within five business days. How SAT prep works.
Book the SAT diagnostic session →Where we meet.
Who this is for
Students in grades 8 through 12 who need a course made clear, a test score moved, or a study system built. Many of the students I work with are capable and have grades that undersell them, including students with ADHD, dyslexia or anxiety. Twice-exceptional students are the ones I’m best known for.
It is not for families who want a large center with a set curriculum and a rotating teacher. I keep a small roster, and every session is with me.
“He is able to adapt to the needs of my son, who has learning challenges, and I have seen the improvement.”
Frank S, parent. More from families.
